Broomhill, Crookes, Crookesmoor and Walkley are amongst the most popular areas for student accommodation. Sheffield University is only a short walk away from Broomhill and although Crookes, Crookesmoor and Walkley are still nearby, there a couple of large hills on the route so you can work on your fitness at the same time. Broomhill is the most popular area as it’s minutes from the University and a short bus ride to town too so ideal for student accommodation. Sheffield’s Broomhill area has plenty of entertainment including many cheap pubs such as The Place and The South Sea. There’s also a great range of places to eat too from your bargain kebab and pizza houses to the Balti King restaurant which has over 700 varieties of dishes and the bistro style Thyme Cafe. Broomhill is also one of the most western regions of the city which makes it ideal for trips out to the countryside university of greenwich accommodation.
Crookes and Crookesmoor are slightly further north of the city centre than Broomhill but they offer equally well placed student accommodation. Sheffield is renowned for its hills and these areas do require a bit of a hike to get to. Don’t let this put you off though as both regions have a lovely village feel to them and include all the essentials on your doorstep such as shops, pubs and restaurants. There are also a great range of parks in these areas including Crookes Valley Park which features a large lake and Bolehill Park at the far end of Crookes which has facilities for football, tennis, basketball and even a BMX track.
Head further on from Crookes and you’ll find Walkley which still has great student accommodation, Sheffield University is around a thirty minute walk away though. There are advantages to living in Walkey as it does tend to be cheaper than the more central Broomhill and it does have more of a suburban feel so it’s a quieter area to live in. There’s still plenty to do in Walkley as there’s a range of traditional pubs including the Closed Shop, Walkley Cottage and the Cobden View and restaurants include Indian, Lebanese and Italian options. If you do choose to live in Walkley you’ll have the advantage of the beautiful Rivelin Valley on your doorstep which is a stunning place for a walk or bike ride.
If you’re planning to study at the University of Sheffield or if you’re moving from halls to rented accommodation make sure you check out what each of the above areas has to offer before you decide on a location.
